Brian Gruber, Trainer
With over 36 years of experience in training and showing in the Hunter/Jumper disciplines, Brian teaches with a positive attitude and approach. With extensive experience riding and training at top equitation barns in the highly competitive Zone 2 on the East Coast, Brian honed the required skills to successfully prepare both horse and rider for the Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation rings.
Since then, Brian has run show barns in Pennsylvania and Maryland, competing at the national level. Multiple horse-and-rider pairs under his tutelage have gone on to win national championships and have qualified for medal finals at the Washington International Horse Show and at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show.
Brian will take you and your horse to the next level by building confidence and thoughtfully expanding boundaries to reach the next level. With an innate ability to know the limits of each horse and rider, Brian is careful to never over-face those in his care. Working with realistic goals and honesty, Brian works hard to develop successful and confident horse and rider pairs.
Missy Gruber, Trainer/Rider
Missy began riding and competing in the Hunter/Jumper disciplines from a young age. After training with Brian for many years, Missy turned professional as a trainer and a rider, qualifying both Hunters and Jumpers for high-profile events including Washington International, Devon and Las Vegas National Horse Shows. In addition to her extensive experience on both coasts of the US, Missy spent time in Europe riding with Performance Sport Horse International (PSI). Missy is an intuitive rider who believes that by understanding the horses she can ask more of them. From behavioral issues to show ring expectations, Missy gives horses the confidence to perform to their best ability, enabling their owners to fully enjoy their animals. As a teacher, Missy excels in helping riders develop their own feel, believing that if riders trust what they are feeling, they will be not only confident, but will equipped with the skill set necessary to reach the next level of the sport.
Taylor Manderscheid, Assistant Trainer
Taylor has been working at Tulucay Farms for almost two years, but she's worked with the Grubers and horses for most of her life. Taylor began taking riding lessons at age 9 with Brian and Missy at their farm in Maryland. Weekly lessons grew into a passion for riding, showing, and working at the barn.
Excelling in all three rings as a Junior, Taylor qualified and competed in the Josey Mohler, Gittings, and Zone 3 Finals. After graduating from high school, Taylor attended Delaware Valley University, earning her bachelor’s degree in equine science, a program that focuses on nutrition, breeding, horse health and care, and stable management. Now, she has come full circle and is working alongside Brian and Missy on the West Coast.
Taylor's background merges quality education with real-life experiences working in a show barn. Her positive energy and down to earth attitude is relaxing to both horses and riders. The exposure that Taylor has gained from working with Brian and Missy from such an early age in combination with her own driven attitude has made her a horsewoman with a great attention to detail. Most of all, Taylor enjoys passing on her knowledge to the next generation of riders, and she is a true asset to the lesson and horse show programs at Tulucay.
A 22-acre equestrian oasis, located in the Napa Valley. Family-owned and trainer-operated, Tulucay features a competitive Hunter/Jumper show program, Tulucay Show Stables, in addition to offering lessons.
